Safari downloads top 500,000

Apple today announced that users have downloaded more than 500,000 copies of its new Safari Web browser since the free public beta was posted on Apple’s Web site Tuesday. “Mac users have gone wild over Safari,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “With its speed, innovative new features and ease of use, Safari is the Mac browser our users have been waiting for.”

iMac wins BETT award

Apple’s flat-panel iMac took home a BETT award on Wednesday in the Hardware Secondary category. The awards are presented to information technology products that reflect excellence in the education space. The eMac, which was nominated in the Hardware Primary category, failed to win an award. Apple’s iDVD took home a BETT Award last year in the Software Tools Secondary category.
