Wi-Fi shipments set to top expectations

A recent Allied Business Intelligence (ABI) report finds that, driven by strong growth in the SOHO/retail market segment and broader global demand for 802.11x based wireless local area network (WLAN) solutions, shipments of chipsets are set to hit 23 to 25 million units this year, up from 7.9 million in 2001. “This is considerably above initial expectations for 14-15 million chipsets, and it points towards an acceleration in catalysts driving Wi-Fi adoption.”

Rainjul open sources Aizai Internet channel server

Rainjul today released Aizai Open Channel Server, an open source version of its Internet channel server software. Aizai allows individuals and groups to view, create and distribute digital photos, movies, music, Web pages, documents and folders via virtual television channels. Aizai is available as an expiring, fully functional demo and comes with Aizai Global Tuner and Aizai Global Broadcaster. A single user license costs US$29.95. Timbuk2 Designs, makers of custom-built messenger bags, has announced a new version of the company’s laptop sleeve for Apple’s 17″ PowerBook. “Precious trade secrets will travel safely (and stylishly) in this form-fitting techno-prophylactic, which is available in 840 Ballistic, Cordura and Waxed Canvas fabrics.” The sleeve will be available for order in mid-February.
