Helios TCP/SLP printer driver now available for Mac OS X

Helios Software today announced the release of the Helios TCP/IP based printer driver for Mac OS X that further enhances its 4th generation EtherShare 3.1 file and print server software. The new driver is a component of the recently released EtherShare 3.1, which enables Mac OS 9 clients to print up to three times faster than AppleTalk PAP or Apple Remote LPR, according to the press release.

HyperSpell 1.0b1 released

Kuwan.net today announced the release of HyperSpell for Mac OS X, a convenient “menuling” that gives the user instant access to Mac OS X’s built-in spellchecker. Simply click on HyperSpell’s icon in the menu bar and enter the word, or words, that you want spellchecked. Words that are misspelled appear with a red underline. You can then control-click (or right-click) on the misspelled words to reveal a list of possible spellings. HyperSpell is freeware and is released under the BSD License.

Alco Bloom has released URL Manager Pro 3.0.4, the latest update of his excellent shareware bookmark manager for Mac OS X. URL Manager Pro allows users to store, manage, and organize bookmarks independently, and supports Internet Explorer, Netscape, OmniWeb, Opera and iCab. Version 3.0.4 adds support for the Safari and Chimera browser bookmark file format. Both formats are XML based and URL Manager Pro can read and write these formats and put these files in the necessary folders of the user’s and browser’s preferences.

Omicron Software today released ToDo X 1.2, an update to the company’s straightforward, dedicated to-do list application written in native Cocoa for Mac OS X. Version 1.2 delivers a number of user interface refinements and user-requested features, including additional printing options and the ability to choose screen and printer fonts. ToDo X 1.2 is US$15 shareware, and is free to registered users of earlier versions.

Apple Web site recognizes Safari users

Several MacMinute readers note that Apple’s Web site now recognizes what browser you are using — as long as you are surfing with its new Safari Web browser. A small Safari icon appears in the top-left corner of Apple.com with the message “Welcome Safari user” when visiting the site with Safari. As expected, the icon does not appear when viewing the site with any other browsers.
