Apple releases security updates for Panther, Jaguar

Apple today released Security Update 2003-11-19 for both Mac OS X Panther and Jaguar. In the release notes for the Panther version, Apple said the update includes updated OpenSSL and zlib “gzprintf()” function components. Apple said the Jaguar version includes the following updated components: gm4; groff; Mail w/CRAM-MD5 authentication; OpenSSL; Personal File Sharing; QuickTime for Java; and zlib “gzprintf()” function. Both security updates are available via the Mac OS X Software Update preference pane.

macXware today announced that MediaEdit Pro is now available for Mac OS X. The movie, audio and image editor offers the ability to export to any DV camera or QuickTime supported file format, and includes over 200 special effects, filters and transitions. MediaEdit Pro also has a Rotoscoping tool that allows users to paint directly on movie frames. The software is priced at US$79.99.

Captain FTP updated for Panther

Xnet Communications today released Captain FTP 3.1, an update to its FTP client for the Mac. Version 3.1 is improved and optimized for use with Mac OS X 10.3 Panther. The update also offers new interface themes, one browser window work mode, and improved daily work ergonomics through new “Last visited folder” options and re-designed contextual menu.
