Several MacMinute readers report that Apple’s .Mac Web site has been updated with a new version of Virex, McAfee’s popular anti-virus software. The site reads, “Virex 7.2, now with automatic eUpdate. Now .Mac members can enjoy hassle-free protection against the latest worms and viruses, automatically. Just download and launch Virex 7.2 with eUpdate, Virex will automatically download the most current definition (DAT) files that allow it to spot the latest known viruses and worms hidden on your system.”

Pixar reports financial results; shopping for new partnership

Pixar, the animation studio headed by Apple CEO Steve Jobs, today reported financial results for its fourth quarter and fiscal year ended December 28, 2002. For the quarter, Pixar earned US$17 million, or $0.31 per diluted share, on revenues of $39.4 million. For fiscal 2002, the company earned $90 million, or $1.68 per share, on revenues of $201.7 million. “2002 was the most financially successful year in Pixar’s history, driven by the phenomenal success of Monsters, Inc.

MacSpeech, developers of speech recognition solutions for the Mac, today announced the release of four new ScriptPaks for iListen on Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar). Apple to host 1394 Developers Conference in Tokyo

The 1394 Trade Association today announced that its annual Developers’ Conference will be held June 17-19 at Apple’s Tokyo headquarters, located in the Tokyo Opera City Tower in Shinjuku. “This year’s DevCon presentations will focus on designing advanced FireWire products using the new 1394b/FireWire 800 version of the standard, which provides immediate speed upgrades to 800 Megabits/second, with 100 meter distance capabilities.
