Apple Australia’s managing director leaving

Apple Australia’s managing director, Ben Bowley, will leave the company at the end of March, according to The Age. Both internal and external candidates are being considered for his position, although the strongest speculation is that an executive from Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, California may be sent to Sydney. Bowley said on Friday that he wants to start his own tourism business. He also said that he leaves Apple Australia in good shape.

Pixar switches from Sun to Intel

Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ “other” company, Pixar Animation Studios, is switching from Sun Microsystems to Intel, reports c|net. The company, which created the hit movies Monsters Inc. and Toy Story, is replacing servers from Sun in its render farm — a bank of servers that fuses artists’ images into finished film frames — with eight new blade servers from Rackspace. The system contains a total of 1,024 Intel 2.8GHz Xeon processors and runs the open-source Linux operating system.
