Wired reports on Army Major Shawn Weed, who was issued a Panasonic Toughbook for use in the deserts of Kuwait, but quickly ditched it for a 1Ghz PowerBook G4. “The U.S. military is shipping a lot of hardware to the Middle East for the impending war on Iraq, but only one Mac. In the entire theater of operations, involving nearly 300,000 troops and hundreds of tanks and aircraft, one lonely Macintosh shipped out, according to the major who took it there.”

Island Spirits releases Triangle Man 1.0

Island Spirits Software has released Triangle Man 1.0, a program for plotting ternary graphs. “By leveraging the Quartz drawing engine in Mac OS X, Triangle Man’s graphs are top-notch, including transparency, anti-aliasing, and export to resolution-independent PDFs.” Triangle Man is US$40 shareware and requires Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar).
