AirPort version 3.0 released

Apple today released AirPort 3.0 for both Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) and Mac OS X 10.1.5. A list of improvements was not provided. However, the AppleCare Kowledge Base documents note that “The AirPort 3.0 software release supports both AirPort Extreme and AirPort products. AirPort Extreme delivers higher speeds for customers who have both the AirPort Extreme Card and the AirPort Extreme Base Station. However, AirPort Extreme will work with all AirPort products.

MSN Messenger 3.5 for Mac OS X now available

As expected, Microsoft’s Macintosh Business Unit has posted MSN Messenger for Mac 3.5, the latest release of the company’s instant messenging client. New features in version 3.5 include message archiving with a search feature, a new change display name option, and contact management. In addition, when contacts are sorted into groups, an option is available to show only those individuals who are currently online in each group.

Apple releases new Mac OS X security update

Apple today released Security Update 2003-03-24 for Mac OS X 10.2.4 via the Software Update preference panel. It “addresses a Samba vulnerability which could allow unauthorized remote access to the host system. The built-in Windows file sharing is based on the open source technology called Samba and is off by default in Mac OS X. OpenSSL is also updated to address an issue in which RSA private keys can be compromised when communicating over LANs, Internet2/Abilene, and interprocess communication on local machine.
