LaCie ships FireWire 800 hard drives

LaCie today announced that it is now shipping the new line of desktop hard drives that support the faster FireWire 800 interface. The new drives, which were announced at Macworld Expo in January, are housed in LaCie’s award-winning d2 design, feature true plug-and-play operation, and offer data-transfer speeds of 800Mbps — two times faster than the 400Mbps of the current implementation of FireWire.

Final Cut Pro user group event at NAB

The Final Cut Pro User Group Network, which consists of over 25 FCP User Groups from around the world, will gather in Las Vegas on April 9 at the Mandalay Bay Hotel’s Tradewinds Ballroom as part of the annual NAB convention. On the Agenda will be “Stump the Gurus,” a troubleshooting question and answer session with some of the Countries top FCP gurus. Also, “Meet the FCP Team” where Final Cut Pro Product Designer Brian Meaney will be joined by other members of the FCP Team for a Q&A and demo.

Gateway is launching a new ad campaign designed to promote its digital-music services and educate consumers about what “rights and responsibilities” they have in using digital music, reports c|net. “Dubbed “Rip, Burn, Respect” — a not-so-oblique reference to Apple’s ‘Rip, Mix, Burn’ campaign of 2002 — the television ads that will saturate the United States beginning Thursday night aim mostly at showing how Gateway’s digital-music packages simplify online music.

Orange Micro debuts FireWire 800 PCI card, TriBOT tripod

Orange Micro has announced the OrangeLink FireWire 800 PCI card, which is equipped with two 9-pin FireWire 800/1394b ports, is fully backward compatible with an additional 6-pin FireWire 400/1394a port, and is designed to operate in a 64-bit PCI slot (will also function in a 32-bit PCI slot with limited performance). The FireWire 800 PCI card is priced at US$89 and will ship in May.
