XtroVERT Xserve RAID vertical enclosure debuts

XtremeMac today introduced XtroVERT, a vertical enclosure for Apple’s new Xserve RAID. The XtroVERT’s shape is finished to match the Xserve RAID perfectly, and provides a fully integrated, single-unit look. XtroVERT features a pedestal that is made of extruded aluminum that extends the full depth of the Xserve RAID. The design includes a special base plate, coated to prevent scratching of the Xserve RAID when it slides into place. A steel cover provides protection, increased rigidity, and a matching finished surface to the main body of the RAID.

KeyStrokes 3.0, SwitchXS 1.0 coming

Niemeijer Consult has announced the release schedules for KeyStrokes 3.0 and a new application called SwitchXS. KeyStrokes 3.0, a major update to the company’s on-screen keyboard solution for Mac OS X, is scheduled for release in May and will include a new word prediction engine. SwitchXS 1.0 is a new application that allows single and multiple switch access to Mac OS X. It offers full mouse and keyboard emulation by means of a so-called scanning mechanism. SwitchXS is scheduled to be released this summer.

Contour to introduce ShuttleXpress media controller

Contour Design will announce the ShuttleXpress, a new five-button jog and shuttle media controller based on its award-winning ShuttlePRO, at the NAB show in Las Vegas this week. The ShuttleXpress is designed for “ergonomic integrity and maximizing productivity,” allowing one-hand access to the five programmable buttons and a jog/shuttle knob. The inner ring or “jog” rotates through 360 degrees and provides frame-by-frame control. The outer black ring or “shuttle” is rubberized and spring-loaded.

Macs, Midi help enliven New York dance troupe

A recent Apple Hot News article looks at Troika Ranch, a New York City-based digital dance theater company, who deliver “stunning live performances that unite dance, theater and interactive digital media.” They do it with the help of Macs and MidiDancer, a wireless sensory system that attaches to a dancer’s costume and triggers visual and musical accompaniment.
