MOTU debuts 828mkII FireWire audio interface

MOTU today introduced the 828mkII (US$795), a single rack-space, FireWire audio interface for both the Mac and PC. The 828mkII replaces the company’s 828 model and adds several new features, including more simultaneous inputs (20) and outputs (22), 24-bit 96kHz operation, 8-bus monitor mixing with front panel LCD programming, stand-alone operation, front-panel mic/guitar/instrument inputs with preamps and sends, SMPTE time code sync and MIDI input/output.

Squeeze adds ability to save video, audio filter settings

Sorenson Media today announced the immediate availability of Sorenson Squeeze 3.1, the latest version of its popular video encoding software. Version 3.1 enables video producers to save and reuse their own video and audio filter settings to quickly batch process video files through the use of “Watch Folders.” Sorenson Squeeze for Mac OS X is priced at US$399 for the month of May ($100 savings).

OWC debuts 320GB Mercury Elite FireWire/USB drive

Other World Computing (OWC) today expanded its line of Mercury Elite external FireWire/USB 2.0+1.1 combo hard drives with the introduction of a 320GB model priced at US$459.99. Additionally, OWC reduced prices on all of its Mercury Elite external storage solutions, with the exception of its 250GB 7200RPM model with 8MB cache that debuted in March. The new prices are $10 to $50 lower and constitute reductions of up to 14 percent.

Discribe update brings AAC support

Charismac today announced that it has added support for Apple’s new digital audio format, AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) to its Discribe 5.0.36 CD/DVD burning software. “Users can now simply drag and drop AAC tracks over the Discribe interface in order to burn the files to a standard Audio CD which can be listened to in all car and home audio CD players. Converted files can also be saved to the user’s hard drive in AIFF format for future use.” The new version of Discribe is available for US$69.95 ($39.95 upgrade).
