Apple releases Mac OS X Server security update

MacUpdate notes that Apple has released Security Update 2003-07-23 for Mac OS X Server 10.2, which “improves the security of your system by assigning a ‘disabled’ password to a new account created by Workgroup Manager until that account has been saved for the first time.” According to Apple, “this ensures the new account cannot be accessed by an unauthorized individual.” The update is available via the Software Update preference pane.

Macromedia reports Q1 profit

Macromedia, developer of Flash and Dreamweaver, on Wednesday posted a profit of US$6.7 million, or 10 cents per share, for its first quarter of fiscal year 2004. In the year-ago quarter, the company reported a net loss of $2 million or 3 cents per share. Revenues for the three months ended June 30, 2003 were $83.1 million, compared with net revenues of $84.3 million reported in the comparable period a year ago.

Wildform releases Wild FX Pro titling software

Wildform today announced the release of Wild FX Pro, its new video titling and text animation software. Wild FX Pro comes with 417 effects that work with a user’s installed fonts, 45 customizable effects templates, and can output to .mov, .avi, .dv, .mp4, and .swf formats. The software sells for US$99. “With Wild FX Pro creating a video title or text animation is as easy as entering text and selecting an effect,” notes the developer.

Ableton releases Live 2.1 with ReWire support, more

Ableton has announced the immediate availability of Live 2.1, a free update to its popular sequencing instrument for Mac OS 9 and OS X. Version 2.1 brings full ReWire Master and Slave support, allowing Live 2.1 to run seamlessly with Digidesign Pro Tools 6.1 or any other ReWire application. The update also offers support for Sound Designer II files under OS 9 and OS X. In addition, Live 2.1 supports Direct I/O and easily connects to Digidesign hardware.
