Macromedia ships Contribute 2

Macromedia today announced the availability of Contribute 2, a tool for individuals and teams to update and manage content on existing Web sites. Contribute 2 now works with Mac OS X, and connects to Web sites faster and more securely, says Macromedia in the press release. Contribute 2 is priced at US$99, while existing Contribute users can upgrade to the new version for $9.99 for a limited time only.

RealMac releases Voice Box 1.4

Realmac Software today announced the immediate availability of Voice Box 1.4, the latest release of the company’s speech application. Voice Box was written in cocoa for Mac OS X users who wish to output the Mac’s text-to-speech system into an audio file (aiff). The software will also read out each word as you type it, in 1 of 22 voices, and allows you to change the pitch and speed of the voices used. In addition, RSS feeds are supported, so Voice Box will download news from sites you select and read it aloud to you.

Computer dictionary presents interesting Apple ‘facts’

A humorous news item on Macworld UK today points out some curious “facts” about Apple published in the fourth edition of the Collins Dictionary of Computing, by Ian Sinclair. One excerpt from the book erroneously states that “the uncertainty following the takeover of Apple by IBM also had an affect on sales.” Obviously IBM never took over Apple. ES-Backup 3.2 offer HFS+ support for Mac OS X

Uwe Gohlke Software has released ES-Backup 3.2, the latest version of the company’s data backup and archiving solution for HELIOS publishing servers as a HELIOS independent version. New features in version 3.2 include HFS+ support for Mac OS X, barcode support in tape changers, faster backup and restore, as well as software write-protection and recycling of tapes. Pricing was not listed, but more information and a demo version are available from the site.
