Intel CTO: Desktops not ready for 64-bits

eWeek reports that Intel’s Pat Gelsinger, chief technology officer at the chip maker, said that 64-bit computing won’t be needed on desktop PCs for several more years. “In terms of the general market need, you don’t need it for several more years,” Gelsinger said, specifying that he envisioned Intel bringing the technology to market around 2006 or 2007. Gelsinger’s remarks came in a day devoted to the discussion of Intel’s research technologies before the company’s Intel Developer Forum in San Jose, California.

Wacom lowers price of Intuos2 Platinum 6×8

Wacom today announced that it has dropped the price of its popular Intuos2 Platinum 6×8 professional pen tablet to US$299 (previously $349). Intuos2 tablets feature Wacom’s patented cordless and battery-free pen technology. The ergonomically designed Grip Pen provides “greater control, comfort, and productivity for photographers, designers and artists.” The cordless Intuos2 mouse provides precise tracking and control, without a ball or batteries.

iVideo organizes movie collections

Waterfall Software has released iVideo 1.0, a new application for managing movie collections. iVideo “keeps movies the same way Apple’s iPhoto keeps pictures,” according to the developer. iVideo supports QuickTime Movies, MPEGs, MP4s, AVIs and even DV Streams. iVideo is US$16.95 shareware.
