Extensis selling PrintReady to Printable Technologies

Printable Technologies today announced plans to acquire PrintReady from Extensis. An application service, PrintReady provides preflight file inspection, compression and transfer capabilities that simplify and expedite the process of preparing and electronically transferring print jobs from designers to printers and service bureaus. “There will be no interruption of service to Extensis’ current PrintReady customers during the relocation of the system to Printable’s operations center,” the company said.

Aladdin ships StuffIt Standard Edition 8.0

Following the release of StuffIt Deluxe 8.0 last week, Aladdin Systems today announced the availability of StuffIt Standard Edition 8.0, a new Mac OS X version of its industry-standard access and compression utility. The new version includes faster compression, DropStuff filters, new access to newsgroup and Windows formats .yenc and .cab, and integrated HTML help. StuffIt Standard Edition 8.0 is priced at US$49.99.

Digital Filmmakers Grant includes G5, Final Cut Pro 4

Panasonic has announced a Digital Filmmakers Grant program that each quarter will reward an independent filmmaker with a complete production package to produce a feature or documentary project. Grand prize winners will receive the use of an AJ-SDX900 dual-mode DVCPRO Cinema camera package with Fujinon lens, a Power Mac G5, Final Cut Pro 4, and a DVCPRO50 deck with an IEEE 1394 card. Applications are being accepted through the end of the year for the first grant.

Captain FTP version 3.0 released

Xnet Communications today released Captain FTP 3.0, a new version of its FTP client for the Mac. The update brings several new features including server to server file transfer, a new metal interface rewritten in Cocoa, dynamic browser, new file viewer and file finder, rebuilt Address Book with Safari-like editable Toolbar, enhanced support for editors (BBEdit, Hydra and others) and many smaller improvements. Captain FTP is US$25 shareware.
