Apple updates Bluetooth firmware

Apple has posted Bluetooth Firmware Updater 1.0.2, which provides updated firmware for DLink modules (revision B2 or later), and Apple Bluetooth internal modules on PowerBooks and Power Macs. According to Apple, the update delivers improved connectivity between a Mac and the new Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mouse, enhancements to the update installation process, better performance when waking a Mac from sleep, and support for additional key commands during startup.

Apple posts $44 million profit, iPod sales soar

Apple on Wednesday posted a net profit of US$44 million, or 12 cents a share, for its fiscal fourth quarter ended September 27. These results compare to a loss of $45 million, or 13 cents a share, in the year-ago quarter. Revenues for the quarter were $1.715 billion, up 19 percent from the year-ago quarter. Analysts were expecting earnings of 7 cents per share, according to First Call.

San Jose, CA students the latest to get iBooks

The Mercury News reports that 1,100 students at Gunderson High School in San Jose, California, were recently given Apple iBooks as part of a US$6 million program. “In education-speak, this is the first step of a ‘vertical slice’ program. The laptops cost the district about $1,360 each. The rest of the funds go to expenses like insurance, infrastructure, training and software — and eventually, more computers.
