PowerLogix introduces aluminum G4 Cube enclosure

PowerLogix today announced the PowerCube, an aluminum replacement enclosure for the Power Mac G4 Cube. The PowerCube, hand-assembled from 5052 aluminum alloy, offers “superior” cooling over the original Cube case, allowing the system to be safely upgraded with a faster processor and a high-performance video card. Three finishes are available: “G5-style” anodized aluminum, glossy black powder coat, or cool white powder coat. Two optional perforated cooling grilles are offered: anodized aluminum or mirror chrome.

Griffin Technology said today that it is now shipping the iFire amplifier/adapter for Apple Pro Speakers. “Announced this summer, the Griffin iFire (US$39.99) allows any computer with FireWire or an iPod with its charger to connect and power the popular and stylish Apple Pro Speakers. Apple releases security update for Panther

Apple today released Security Update 2003-10-28 via the Mac OS X Software Update preference pane. According to the company, the update addresses a potential vulnerability in the implementation of QuickTime Java in Mac OS X 10.3 Panther and Mac OS X Server 10.3 that could allow unauthorized access to a system.

X11 for Panther now available

Apple has released the final 1.0 version of X11, its implementation of the X Window System for running X11-based applications in Mac OS X. The software, which has been in beta version since January 2003 for Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar, includes the full X11R6.6 technology including an X11 window server, Quartz window manager, libraries, and basic utilities such as xterm. According to Apple, X11 1.0 requires Mac OS X 10.3 Panther, and is available as an optional install on retail Panther CDs or as a download from the company’s Web site.

Microsoft settles state antitrust lawsuits

Microsoft said Tuesday that it has settled antitrust class action lawsuits with five states and the District of Columbia. “The six new settlements, with a total value of about $200 million, brings the total number of states that have settled to 10,” reports InfoWorld. “Class action lawsuits against Microsoft for antitrust-related practices continue in five states.
