Toshiba plans to double monthly output of 1.8-inch hard drives from March to meet rising demand for high-capacity storage used in digital music players such as the iPod. “Toshiba said it would make 600,000 units of 1.8-inch HDDs, up from 300,000,” Reuters reports. “Toshiba is the only major manufacturer of 1.8-inch HDs and controls nearly 98 percent of the global market, which the firm expects to grow almost eight-fold to 25 million units in 2006.”
