VeriSign has made plans to shut down its controversial Site Finder service, which redirects mistyped and misspelled URLs to its own site, after the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) stepped in. “In a letter sent to VeriSign on Friday, ICANN CEO Paul Twomey told the domain name registrar that it had until 6 p.m. PDT Saturday to comply with a request to take down the SiteFinder service,” reports CNET News.com. ICANN is the nonprofit organization responsible for administering Internet domain names.
