MCE Technologies today released new desktop and portable DVD-recordable (DVD-R/RW) drives. The desktop model (US$329) is an external DVD-R/RW drive with both FireWire and USB 2.0 interfaces, while the portable model ($479) — the Lucid-SD — is a slim, bus-powered DVD-R/RW FireWire drive that weighs-in at less than a pound. The desktop drive writes to DVD-R media at 4x speed and DVD-RW at 2x. It burns CD-R at 16x and CD-RW at 8x. The portable Lucid-SD drive writes to DVD-R and DVD-RW at 1x speed. It burns CD-R media at 16x and CD-RW at 10x. Both drives are compatible with Apple’s iTunes and Disc Burner software, and ship with Roxio Toast Lite. In addition, both drives ship with ImageMixer DVD, an introductory DVD authoring software for the Mac.
