FireWire Direct offers new DVD-R products

FireWire Direct announced today that it is now offering the Pioneer A05 DVD-R/RW drive as an internal “bare drive” unit. The internal drive (US$325) offers 4x DVD writing speed and works with Apple’s iDVD (external drives are not supported by iDVD). The company is also offering a combo package ($399) that includes the A05 drive along with a an external FireWire enclosure for the CD or DVD drive being replaced by the Pioneer unit.

Western Digital introduces 200GB external FireWire hard drive

Western Digital today announced a new 200GB external FireWire hard drive, which the company calls “the largest and fastest external hard drive currently available in the market.” The drive offers 7,200 RPM spin speed, a 2MB buffer, and works with Mac OS 9 or higher and Mac OS X. The Western Digital 200GB FireWire external drive is expected to be available later this month for US$399.

Apple releases WebObjects 5.2

Apple today released WebObjects 5.2, a new version of its powerful Web application development software. The release includes support for Web services, improved J2EE integration, Java Web Start integration, and improved streaming file upload. WebObjects 5.2 requires Mac OS X 10.2 and sells for US$699.
