FirewireDirect today announced the FireWire RAID Vanguard, the first ever FireWire hardware RAID. The Vanguard utilizes the Oxford 911 ATA-100 bridge and is available in configurations up to 240GB and supports RAID Level 1 and NRAID. Pricing starts at US$975.

Apple recently updated the look of its online Apple store with the addition of a left-hand sidebar for more easily browsing the products that are offered for sale. The link to Apple’s “special deals” on refurbished products has also been removed.

Apple has updated its home page again with a new pre-Macworld San Francisco message that reads “Beyond the rumor sites. Way beyond.” Yesterday the message read “Count the days. Count the minutes. Count on being blown away.” while before that it read “This one is big. Even by our standards.”

Gerard Kaleur Mattison has upgraded Apple from “neutral” to “outperform,” citing new hardware and the proliferation of Mac OS X as accelerating the upgrade cycle for Apple’s installed base. The firm also lowered its fiscal 2002 estimate by three cents, set a target price of $26 per share, and expects shares to rise before Macworld Expo begins and fall off afterwards.
