Numerous MacMinute sources have confirmed that Apple will begin shipping new Macs with Mac OS X as the default operating system today, some 10 months after shipping the initial version of the software. Last July, Apple began shipping new Macs with both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X, although the systems booted into Mac OS 9 by default.

Addonics today announced its external Mobile DVD/CDRW combo-drive, which can read DVDs at 12x, burn CDs at 20x, and read CDs at 40x. The drive features FireWire (US$429), USB 2.0 ($399), or Cardbus ($409) connectivity.

4D will preview its new 4D Business Kit at Macworld Expo, the company announced today. The “integrated multi-language, multi-store eCommerce development tool is designed for rapid development of complete storefront solutions, [providing] catalogs, shopping carts, payment systems, tax calculations, shipping, customer management and order tracking.”

Interactive Solutions today announced the release of MovieWorks Deluxe 5.2 for Mac OS X, its multimedia authoring suite targeted at consumers and prosumers. The software combines video, sound, animation, paint, and image editing tools into a single product that can produce multimedia presentations, analog or digital video, Web movies, audio CDs, video CDs, and more. MovieWorks Deluxe for Mac OS X is available now for US$119.95.

FileMaker today announced that it will be previewing FileMaker Mobile 2 Companion for Palm OS with Mac OS X support at Macworld Expo. New features include pop-up Menus, resizable columns, date and time picker, and more. The software is expected to ship in the first half of 2002.
