Japan-based ExpressionTools, Inc. today announced the releaseof an English language version of its high-end 3D graphics application forMac OS 9, ShadePersonal R5/E. The software offers flexible modeling using Bezier curvesand features high-speed, high-quality rendering. Shade Personal R5/E sellsfor US$499; the product includes an online PDF manual in English, but aseparate printed English manual must be purchased separately for $90.

ZDNet AnchorDesk Executive Editor David Coursey has revealed his plan to >switch to a Mac for a month in an experiment to discover how well it compares to what he is able to accomplish with his Windows-based PC. “I’ve been saying that many more people should have Macs than actually do…so now I am going to walk that walk for a while.” Updates will be provided throughout the experience through Coursey’s column, and a detailed report will be published at the conclusion of the experiment.

UserLand Software has announced the release of Radio UserLand 8.0, its desktop Web publishing solution for Mac OS 8/9 and Mac OS X. The software includes everything needed to build and publish a Web site, including hosting, your own URL, a news reader that gathers news from top news sites, weblogs, simple browser-based editing, and more. Radio UserLand 8.0 sells for US$39.95; a 30-day free trial is also available.

Ambrosia today released the Coldstone Game Engine, its tool for creating games for Mac OS, Mac OS X, and Windows, without any programming experience. Coldstone, which sells for US$49, was used to create Pillars of Garendall, a role-playing game that Ambrosia released last year. A demo is also available.
