Apple’s latest “Macs In Action” feature profiles the University of Delaware, which last year headed up a 17-day mission to research hydrothermal vents in the Pacific Ocean. The research vessel was equipped with a number of Macs that were used to document the expedition.

Thirty-year public school educator Bob Shier, writing as a guest columnist for ZDNet Anchordesk, discusses the Mac-PC debate in schools, concluding that in his experience, Macs are a far better choice for the classroom. “If you want to work for the machine, go with Windows. If you want the machine to work for you, go with the Mac.”

The Register has published a look at Motorola’s recently updated G4 roadmap, which calls for three new variations of the G4 to be developed over the coming year. While laden with technological terms, the article notes processor speeds as high as 1.5GHz, and bus speeds of 266MHz, with a new RapidIO technology that could deliver even higher performance.

Feelorium has released Tattoo1.0, a QuickTime media skin editor for Mac OS X that allows users toattach a custom shaped media skin to QuickTime movies. The applictaion canbe used to create multimedia greeting cards, photo album slide shows with acustom picture frame, and more. Tattoo sells is US$23 shareware.

Several MacMinute readers in the U.K. report that their new iMac orders from the Apple Store have shipped. Supply remains very tight, however, and it’s unclear when resellers in the country can expect stock of the system.  Updated 12:25 Craig Sanderson has informed us that PC World, a U.K. Mac reseller, had a few units of the new iMac in stock today, although a salesperson said supply is very constrained.
