Sony updates digital imaging line

Sony yesterday evening made a number of product announcements, including introducing three new P Series digital cameras that focus on “behind-the-scenes technology” to improve automatic focus, exposure, and adjustments in various lighting conditions. The 2.0 megapixel P31 (US$220, shipping in March) features a 3x digital zoom, while the larger P51 ($300, shipping in April) also features a 2x optical zoom.

Microsoft tracks Media Player usage details

Microsoft’s Windows Media Player 8, included with Windows XP, keeps track of the music and movies that users watch on their computer, according to an Associated Press article. The controversial practice could be used for marketing purposes or to track pirates, although Microsoft says it will not sell data it collects. The Macintosh versions of Windows Media Player do not feature this functionality.

Click Here Design has released CubicConverter 1.0, a tool for converting various types of images into and out of cubic format QuickTime VR movies, and CubicConnector 1.0, which links cubic format QuickTime VR files into multinode movies or HTML-linked single nodes. The two applications run under both Mac OS 8/9 and Mac OS X. CubicConverter 1.0 sells for US$35, while CubicConnector 1.0 sells for $85.
