Apple airs new iMac commercial

Apple this evening aired a new iMac commercial on NBC at 21:56 ET and again at 22:15 ET. The 30-second spot features a man standing outside a store window looking in at the new iMac. As the man moves his head around, the iMac’s display mimics his movement; the man sticks his tongue out, and the iMac’s optical drive opens. The spot ends with Jeff Goldblum’s voice announcing, “Just wait until you see the new iMac.” The commercial is not yet available for viewing online.

HP recalls some printer power cables

Hewlett-Packard today issued a recall on the power cables included with some DeskJet 800/900 series and Photosmart 1000/1100/1200/1300 series printers. Affected cables are two-prong, grey in color, and are marked with “Longwell” in between the prongs. Some cords are susceptible to cracking, exposing dangerous live electrical contacts.

Wired Weekend kicks off tonight at select Apple stores

Beginning tonight at 18:00, Apple retail stores in CambridgeSide, Tysons Corner, Glendale Galleria and Valley Fair will kick off Wired Weekend, a four-day event sponsored by Wired magazine and Apple. Attendees are encouraged to bring their digital camera and a suitable USB cable to connect to in-store computers and experiment with iPhoto. An iBook will be given away on Thursday night, and digital cameras will be given away throughout the weekend. Discounts on printers and cameras will also be available throughout the weekend.
