Bare Bones Software today released Mailsmith 1.5, anew version of its e-mail client that adds support for Mac OS X. Version 1.5 also features a new filter creation process, support for importing mail from Apple Mail, Emailer, and Eudora, a simplified process for reporting spam, and other improvements. Mailsmith normally sells for US$99, but it is now on sale for $69 until May 31, 2002.

EPSON has released EPSON Scan ToFile, a beta application for Mac OS X that allows users to scan and saveimages from EPSON scanners. The application is available in a variety oflanguages, including English, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Dutch,Portuguese, and Italian.

SMC Networks has announced the Barricade Plus Cable/DSL Broadband router, available in both wired (SMC7004FW) and 802.11b-compliant wireless (SMC7004WFW) versions. The platform-independent routers include 10/100Mbps switches (four ports on the wired version and three ports on the wireless) and support up to five VPN tunnels. The wireless Barricade Plus supports 64- and 128-bit WEP encryption and MAC address authentication.

Electronic Arts has announced that its virtual life game, The Sims, has sold morethan 6.3 million copies worldwide, surpassing the 1993 adventure game Mystas the best selling computer game of all time, according to GameSpot. The Sims and its three expansion packs have combined sales ofover 13 million units.
