Newtek announced Wednesday the release of LightWave Free Discovery Edition, a free version of the company’s 3D animation software that features limiting saving capabilities and watermarked renderings, as noted by MacNN. During the past week, MacDesktops has posted 14 new pictures, including: Audi A2 (Cars), Dark Angel (Portraits), Offspring skull (Music), Oklahoma butterfly (Fauna), and Snoqualmie Pass, Washington (Landscapes – Nature). Meanwhile, Mandolux has posted 16 new pictures; 15 aerospace pictures of the F-22 Raptor and one new addition to the Technosis/Anthraxis series.

MaxMenus 1.1 now available

Proteron has announced the release of MaxMenus 1.1, the latest update to the company’s Mac OS X file menu utility. Version 1.1 fixes a number of bugs and adds several new features to the software, including the ability to “grab” files or folders in a menu and move them to a new location. MaxMenus is US$29.95 shareware.

Microsoft plans Office v.X update

Microsoft plans to release an update to its Office v.X suite for Mac OS X in late May or early June, according to c|net. The update will include feature additions such as full support for anti-aliasing text, ODBC support, and the ability for Office to communicate with FileMaker servers as well as more than 1,000 bug fixes.
