Apple took home a 2002 Vidy award from Videography magazine for the recently introduced Cinema Tools for Final Cut Pro. The Vidy Awards recognize outstanding achievement in the advancement of art and science of video technology.

Epson today introduced the Stylus Photo 2200, which features the company’s new seven-color UltraChrome inks, capable of better reproducing color range, density, and saturation. The Stylus Photo 2200 replaces the Stylus Photo 2000P and features a resolution of 2880×1440 dpi capable of printing an 8″x10″ photograph in four minutes. The Stylus Photo 2200 will ship in July for US$699.

Planar Systems today announced a new 23.1-inch flat-panel display that features a 1600×1200 resolution. The display supports both VGA and DVI inputs and includes the Benwin GX-6A flat-panel speaker system. The new display carries a US$3,600 list price.

Dantz has posted Retrospect 5.0.205, a maintenance update to the commercial backup software that corrects two outstanding bugs, as noted by VersionTracker. Retrospect 5 sells for US$249.

Pangery has released icWord 2.1, a new version of its application for viewing Microsoft Word and AppleWorks files independently of either application. Version 2.1 adds native Mac OS X support and features other small improvements. icWord sells for US$19.95; a 30-day trial is available.
