New Canon camcorder also takes still shots

Canon recently introduced the Elura 40MC, a versatile digital camcorder that allows users to record to MiniDV, shoot XGA (1024×768) digital photos, and record short Motion-JPEG video clips. The camcorder features a 10x optical zoom, 200x digital zoom, a number of built-in special effects, and the ability to print directly to Canon’s CP-10 Card Photo Printer. The Elura 40MC will begin shipping around the end of May for US$999.

FirewireDirect offers new line of hard drives

TARGET=”_top”>FirewireDirect has announced a new inexpensive line of 2.5″ and 3.5″ FireWire hard drives. The new “Essential” line of portable and desktop drives includes the Ultra ES, a 3.5″ external hard drive system running at 7200 RPM with prices starting at US$175.95 for a 40GB model. The Spark ES is a compact portable drive with a 2.5″ mechanism available in configurations up to 60GB. The drive is less than an inch thick with prices starting at $159.95. Both of these models feature the high performance Oxford 911 FireWire bridge boards.
