Fingerprint sensors prove easier to foil

An interesting article at The Register titled “Gummi bears defeat fingerprint sensors” explains how a Japanese cryptography has successfully defeated about 80 percent of fingerprint security sensors using cheap kitchen supplies and a digital camera. “The results are enough to scrap the systems completely, and to send the various fingerprint biometric companies packing,” the founder of Counterpane Internet Security said.

AOL begins testing new Mac OS X software

America Online has begun beta testing AOL for Mac OS X Version 2, a much improved version of its software that features an Aqua look, a Web browser that uses Netscape’s Gecko rendering technology (instead of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer), enhanced TCP/IP connectivity with support for AirPort, and more. AOL for Mac OS X Version 2 is available to beta testers from Keyword: Beta.
