To-The-Point Software has released SnapHappy 1.0, a new image utility for Mac OS X that allows users to easily browse, rename, rotate, crop, delete, and save pictures in a number of formats. Additionally, the software can email photos, run slide shows, and create custom photo albums. SnapHappy is US$14 shareware.

Virtix Zoom, Keyspan drivers updated

Virtix has released an update to its Zoom iMovie Filters. Version 1.1 improves performance and offers three new effects, bringing the total to 13; Zoom In (Photo), Zoom Out (Photo), and Zoom Static (Photo) are all optimized for still photographs. Zoom Filters sells for US$19.99. Meanwhile, Keyspan has posted version 1.2 of the Mac OS X drivers for its USB-to-Serial adapters, as noted by VersionTracker.

Maine middle school eager for iBooks

An article in today’s Portsmouth Herald, as noted by reader Will Gilbert, discusses Shapleigh Middle School’s recent implementation of iBooks, which the school assigned to 42 students and seven staff members as part of the State of Maine’s plan to assign iBooks to all seventh- and eighth-graders. Thus far, the response to the program has been extremely enthusiastic at the school.

Pittsburgh launches public wireless network

Pittsburgh on Monday launched a free, public wireless network in two downtown parks and plans to eventually cover a four-square-mile area of downtown with the network, according to c|net. Once fully implemented, the Pittsburg Public Wireless Internet, as it is called, will charge about US$20 a month for access. Many cities across the U.S. have begun envisioning their own public wireless networks, including Jacksonville, FL, and Ashland, OR.
