Microsoft has announced the release of Internet Explorer 5.2 for Mac OS X. The update “includes a number of enhancements that make the browsing experience better for customers using Mac OS X,” including support for Quartz text smoothing.

ThinkFree Office for Mac OS X, an affordable, alternative suite of productivity applications, is now available through several resellers and retailers worldwide. The US$49.95 software can be purchased from AOL Shop Direct, Bailllio’s Appliance Connection, The Apple Store (Online), The Computer Store North West, DataVision, Fry’s Electronics, J&R Computer World, Micro Center, Micro Warehouse, Small Dog Electronics and more.

Lanier introduced today the AP206 color laser printer, which features print speeds of up to 24 pages per minute in black-and-white, and six pages per minute in color. Other features include a 1200×600 dpi resolution, a standard 250-sheet paper tray, and an optional additional 500-sheet paper tray.

At NECC today in San Antonio, Apple announced PowerSchool SIS 3.0, the latest version of its web-based student information system for K-12 schools and districts. Apple also demonstrated the new Apple Digital Campus Curriculim, which currently consists of two classes, Web Communication and Design and Video Journalism. The courses include 10 days of hands-on, in-person training along with a year of online mentoring, training, and support.

IDG World Expo today announced that Steve Jobs will deliver the Macworld Expo New York keynote presentation on July 17, at 09:00 ET. Macworld Expo runs from July 15-19, with the show floor open July 17-19.
