AT&T posted a US$12.7 billion second-quarter loss Tuesday, a result of a $13.1 billion write-down in the value of its cable TV unit, which is being sold to Comcast. Excluding that charge, the company posted a profit of $0.07 per share, slight ahead of expectations. Revenues declined 6.2 percent from the year-ago quarter, to $12.1 billion.

Apple has released Xserve Update 1.0, which “provides updates and enhancements to the serial port, ATA hard disk drivers, server assistant, and server monitoring functions of Xserve.” Additionally, the update includes new versions of Server Monitor and Server Assistant, for use with Mac OS X clients running Mac OS X 10.1.5.

America Online has put a hold on its interoperability efforts, which would allow users of its instant messenger service to chat with users of other services, such as MSN and Yahoo, through a direct connection. This was revealed in a letter AOL filed with the FCC last week, reports Reuters. AOL said it will now focus on alternative ways of achieving interoperability, such as its relationship with Apple and their iChat application, which is based on AOL Instant Messenger.

AEC Software has released FastTrack Schedule 8.0, a major update to its scheduling and project planning application. The update offers many enhancements, including a redesigned interface for Mac OS X, increased performance, streamlined menus and toolbars, built-in QuickTime graphic support, and enhanced stability, among others. FastTrack Schedule 8.0 is available now for US$299.

Adobe has released an InDesign Document Framework update, as noted by VersionTracker. The updated plug-in fixes an issue related to editing tint swatches based on the Black, Registration, or Paper color swatches in Adobe InDesign 2.0.x documents and is available for free download now.
