MCE Technologies announced today that it is now offering an internal CD-RW/DVD Combo Drive designed to replace the original CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, or CD-RW optical drive currently inside Apple’s iBook. The Combo Drive is available for both the 12.1″ and 14.1″ Dual USB iBooks, and records to CD-R discs at up to 8x speed, records to CD-RW discs at up to 8x speed, reads DVD-ROM discs at up to 8x speed and reads CD-ROM discs at up to 24x speed. The upgrade sells for US$249; customers must ship their iBook to have it installed, with a typical turnaround time of one to two days.
