O’Reilly today announced the release of “Mac OS X for Unix Geeks,” authored by Brian Jepson and Ernest Rothman. The book is a “guide to figuring out the BSD Unix system and Mac-specific components that can make life difficult for newcomers and help them into the Unix inside Mac OS X.” The US$24.95 book also includes topics such as an overview of the Terminal application, understanding Open Directory (LDAP) and NetInfo, library linking and porting Unix software, an overview of Mac OS X’s filesystem and startup processes, and building the Darwin kernel.
