Discreet, a division of Autodesk, today announced it is shipping Discreet cleaner 6 for Macintosh, the latest release of the company’s video encoding software for use with Apple Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere and Avid Xpress DV. Version 6 offers support for MPEG-4 and Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) audio compression through QuickTime 6; a new 2-pass variable bit rate (VBR) encoding for MPEG-2 that lets users create high-quality video for DVD; a new Watch Folders to provide editors the option to encode work directly from their non-linear editing tool from their desktop or across a network; optimization for the G4 Velocity Engine and improved dual processor support and drag-and-drop encoding. Discreet cleaner 6 is priced at US$599, $179 for upgrades.
