Tex9 is changing the name of xtunes, its open source project for Linux users that replicated much of iTunes, at the request of Apple. The company said the new name for the project is sumi, and that it will be changing the interface over the next month. “We received a letter from an attorney at Apple Computer stating that our xtunes software is guilty of copyright and trademark infringement. The copyright infringement has to do with the look-and-feel of the user interface and its similarity to Apple’s iTunes product. The trademark infringement concerns the similarity of the names xtunes and iTunes.”
