Apple today announced the availability of the FireWire Reference Platform 1.0, software that can be used by device manfacturers to add FireWire connectivity to peripheral and consumer electronics products such as digitial cameras, set-top boxes, televisions, and music systems, as noted by c|net. The software is based on technology acquired by Apple from Zayante in April 2002. The release is geared towards increasing the market share of FireWire consumer electronics devices.
