Two representatives from the State of Maine are asking the Attorney General’s office to determine the state’s liability if it breaks its US$37.2 million contract with Apple, according to AP, as noted by MacSurfer. The contract, which calls for equipping all seventh and eighth graders in the state with iBooks, has faced a bevy of criticism in the wake of a $180 million budget shortfall. Rep. Phil Cressey (R-Baldwin) would like the state to further evaluate the plan through the use of more pilot programs, while Rep. Brian Duprey (R-Hampden) wants the plan scrapped entirely.
