Quanta Computer, which manufactures Apple’s flat-panel iMac and laptops for several companies, may ship just 4.5 million systems this year, down from earlier estimates of 6.11 million, according to DigiTimes. The drop is blamed in part on sagging sales of the iMac; another recent DigiTimes discusses the iMac slow-down in more depth, noting that Apple told suppliers to halt production of the iMac for most of June as inventories piled up. Apple reportedly planned to ship 550,000 to 600,000 iMacs from March through August, a figure that has since been revised downward to about 400,000.
