A fledgling program to incorporate iBooks into the Piscataquis CommunityMiddle School curriculum in 2000 has been deemed a success by SuperintendentMatthew Oliver, as reported by the Bangor Daily News. Oliver recently distributed a 3-page report on itssuccess to some legislators and the media, highlighting their use of”Internet driver’s licenses” for students and broad training and support todeter potential problems. Maine is currently considering issuing iBooks to all 7th and 8th grade students in the state, but the plan has come under criticism due to cost and concerns over the plan’s effectiveness.
