The David and Lucile Packard Foundation, which controls about 10 percent of HP, yesterday said it would oppose HP’s merger with Compaq, according to Reuters Other children of HP’s founders, who control about 8 percent of the company, have previously said they will oppose the merger, as well. The increased opposition to the merger by HP shareholders is leading many analysts to suggest the merger will collapse, a move that could significantly hurt Compaq.
