Apple, FileMaker finalists for Codie awards

The Software & Information Industry Association has announced the finalists for its 2002 Codie awards. Apple’s PowerSchool has been nominated for the “Best Elementary/Secondary Management Solution” award, while FileMaker, an Apple subsidiary, has been nominated for “Best Handheld Application” with FileMaker Mobile, and “Best Software Development Product” for FileMaker Developer 5.5. Winners will be announced on April 15, 2002, at the SIIA Annual Conference in San Diego, CA.

Largest piracy bust in history brings down many rings

Law enforcement officials in the U.S. and overseas executed more than 100 search warrants yesterday in what’s being called the largest bust against Internet piracy rings in history. As reported by The Register, three separate operations were carried out by federal officials, including one that involved running a “dummy” warez server to attract software pirates and gain leads to legitimate, established servers.
