MacHack has put out its annual call for speakers for the 17th annual MacHack convention, which will take place June 20-22, 2002. The site suggests eight categories that prospective speakers should pick from. Sessions generally run about an hour long and proposals must be received by February 1, 2002, for consideration.

Linux on the desktop: more hype than reality

Despite the hype surrounding Linux for the past few years, the alternative operating system has failed to make any gains in market share among desktop users, according to a new study from WebSideStory’s StatMarket. As of December 17, 2001, the study found that Linux has a global usage share of 0.24 percent—roughly the same level its had for three years.
