Adobe today announced After Effects 5.5, a new version of its motion graphics and visual effects that adds, among several new features, native support for Mac OS X. Other enhancements to the software include new features that enable precise control, including multiple views, colored shadows, and stained glass lighting; new import and output options, including Advanced RealMedia export and integration with Alias|Wavefront’s Maya; and support for additional 16-bit per channel file formats including Maya IFF, RPF, SGI and QuickTime. After Effects 5.5 is expected to ship during the first quarter of 2002 for US$649 (Standard version) or $1,499 (Production Bundle); upgrades from After Effects 5.0 will cost $99.
