PRESS RELEASE MindVision updates Installer VISE for Mac OS X v10.1
LINCOLN, NEB. – Oct. 17, 2001: In continuing support for development on Mac
OS X, MindVision Software today ships Installer VISE(tm) 7.4. This version
equips developers for installs on Mac OS X v10.1, the first major update to
Apple’s new operating system. The installer is available for download at

Features of the new Installer VISE include:
– Set permissions for install items
With support for groups and permissions, Installer VISE lets you control
user access to items you install on Mac OS X.
– Pass install path to UNIX shell scripts An installer that calls a UNIX
shell script before or after installing an item will now also pass the
install path to the script. This path is accessible through the UNIX $1
– Install symbolic links
Symbolic links are a way to reference files and folders in the Mac OS X
file system. Because they refer to items by path, symbolic links are useful
when the item should always exist at a specific location. Installer VISE
can properly install these links on Mac OS X.
– Support for longer file names
For installs on Mac OS X, Installer VISE now supports file names of up to
63 characters. The previous limit was 32 characters.
– Edit text files
The new Edit Text File action item allows you to edit text in the data fork
of Macintosh files, including hidden files. This action can perform the

You can use the new Launch URL action item to launch the default web
browser on the customer=EDs system and open a specified URL.
– Comment support for installer archives The new Comment action item allows
you to note logic in your installer archives. These comments have no effect
on the installers you build.
– Prevent installs to invisible folders
Installer VISE 7.4 lets you control whether the user can install to
invisible folders on Mac OS X.
– Leave applications running during uninstalls You can now control whether
installers shut down running applications during an unistall.
– Extended user authentication
Installer VISE can authenticate user access privileges for all versions of
Mac OS X.
– Greater control of installer logic
Your installer logic may now include loops to repeat an action item as many
times as required. Previous versions did not reevaluate an action item’s
