Apple has begun shipping a new version of its AirPort card that features 128-bit encryption, MacMinute sources have confirmed. This represents a significant improvement over the 40-bit encryption that previous AirPort cards featured. The new card can be identified by the product number M7600LL/C; the previous generation card (M7600LL/B) is still available in the channel, although it has been discontinued. Neither Apple’s site or the Apple Store are reflecting this information, although some resellers, such as MacMall, do distinguish between model B and C cards. No improvement or changes have been made to the card beyond the increased security, nor has the AirPort Base Station been updated.
