First laptops with mobile Radeon emerge

Compaq and HP today announced the world’s first laptops to feature ATI’s Radeon Mobility graphics chip. The chip is the fastest mobile graphics processor from ATI, replacing the lagging Rage 128 that Apple has used in its PowerBooks and iBooks for more than a year and a half. Many Mac users are expecting Apple to bump the graphics processor in the PowerBook G4 to a Radeon Mobility or nVIDIA’s GeForce2 Go when the laptop is revised, possibly in September.
